FR, EMR, WRFA, AWRFA), Heart & Stroke
Foundation of Canada (CPR)
I've been teaching CPR and First Aid since 1994 and started LMac Community CPR in 1998. Since then I've expanded the company from just myself training over 800 people to having 2 full time instructors and 2 part time instructors that certified almost 2200 people in 2009. Over the years, I've trained numerous staff from many different companies including office staff, factory workers, medical office staff, construction workers as well as both youth and adults with Scouts Canada. While many of them have different training needs, they all have one thing in common - they took the time to learn how to help someone else who requires First Aid - from a basic bandage to full CPR.
In April of 2008, I completed my Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid Instructor level and we are now happy to be able to add the AWRFA & WRFA to our list of available courses. In June of 2008 I completed my First Responder instructor certification and in May 2010 I completed my First Aid Instructor Trainer certification. When the Red Cross First Aid manual was revised in 2005, I was the south-western Ontario representative on the Pupil Training Committee which wrote the 2006 edition of the manual.
Outside of LMac, I've been active as a leader with Scouts Canada since 1992. During that time I've taken Scouting youth from one side of Canada to the other and several places in between. While on those trips I've had to apply my first aid knowledge from band aids to c-spine immobilization. In the summer of 2006 I was part of a 24 member team from Scouts Canada that went to Belize to build a hurricane shelter for a community.
I'm an avid outdoor person whether it be walking the dog, cycling, camping, canoeing or rappelling. Over the last few years I've been white water rafting on the Ottawa river, tidal bore rafting on the Shubenacadie river in Nova Scotia, canyoning at St. Anne's Quebec, interior camping in Algonquin Park, done trauma training from the top of a 300 foot windmill tower (photo above) and hot air ballooning in both London & Ottawa. I'm currently a RappelMaster with Simon Kenton Council, Ohio, USA which involves teaching others rappelling skills as well as high rope rescue techniques.
